In order to capacitate 14 civil society organizations of USAID-funded Civil Society: Mutual Accountability Project, MITRA Samaj – in collaboration with Nepal Participatory Action Network (NEPAN) – conducted a ‘Training on Social Accountability’ from July 23 to 25 at Hotel Manang, Sorekhutte, Thamel, Kathmandu.
The three-day training was focused on capacitating project coordinators and district coordinators working in 14 CSOs implementing CS:MAP in 34 districts of Nepal. The training had focused on concepts of social accountability mechanisms and methods to implement the same.
The social accountability mechanisms highlighted during the training included: Right to Information (RTI), Social Audit, Public Expenditure Tracking Survey (PETS), Public Hearing, Community Score Card, budget analysis, and Citizen Report Card.
The objective of the training was to enhance the understanding about social accountability mechanisms among the CSOs which will help them to apply the social accountability tools to promote social accountability of local authorities of their respective working districts in later phases of the project.
The training concluded after the CSOs develop action plans for the project.
